Blue Tiefpunkt Privacy Policy

Blue Tiefpunkt is a brand operated by RMBAKER LLC. This Privacy Policy describes how Blue Tiefpunkt applications handle information. It applies to SeaLog, ReconGPS and other Blue Tiefpunkt applications that link to it. Where an application behaves differently, that application has its own section below.

IN SHORT

Your records stay on your device. Blue Tiefpunkt has no accounts and no server that holds your trips, points, positions or files.
Two applications use an outside service to do their work. SeaLog asks the U.S. National Weather Service for the weather at your position (section 4). ReconGPS draws its map with Mapbox, which receives the requests needed to draw it and, unless you turn it off, de-identified usage data (section 6).
ReconGPS can take positions from Trimble Mobile Manager, a separate Trimble application on your device. ReconGPS sends Trimble nothing about you (section 7).
Blue Tiefpunkt does not sell information, show advertising, run analytics or crash reporting of its own, or track you across other companies' apps or websites.

1. INFORMATION PROCESSED BY OUR APPLICATIONS

Depending on the application and the features you use, Blue Tiefpunkt applications may process:

Information you enter
Records, notes, settings and preferences
Vessel, trip or sea-service information
Projects, collected points and stake targets
GPS, GNSS, position, route or other location information
Information supplied by a connected GNSS receiver or its companion application (for example the receiver's model and serial number, and details of the correction service in use)
Files you select or provide (for example CSV, mapping or geospatial files)
Information produced by processing, editing, calculating or exporting what you provided
Application state needed for the application to work

2. LOCAL DATA STORAGE

Blue Tiefpunkt applications are designed around local, user-controlled storage. Application data is stored on your device unless you choose to export, share, back up or otherwise send it somewhere.

Blue Tiefpunkt does not operate a central database of your application records, trip histories, collected points, GNSS observations or similar data.

Your device's own backup service (for example iCloud or Google backup) may include application data according to your device settings. That is controlled by you and your device's operating system, not by Blue Tiefpunkt.

3. SEALOG: WHAT IT STORES AND WHERE

SeaLog keeps the following on your device only:

Trips: start and end times, vessel, route category, role served, water bodies, notes, and the distance offshore if you enter it
The GPS positions recorded while a trip is running, and the weather conditions captured during it
Your vessels
The details of the person attesting to each trip (name, role, and any credential, phone number or email you enter). These are details about another person that you choose to enter; please make sure you may do so
The applicant details you enter in Report Setup (name, address, phone, email and a reference number). SeaLog does not ask for a Social Security number
Automatic daily backups kept for 30 days, and any backup you export
An optional GPS diagnostics file, only if you switch on "Record GPS diagnostics". It stays on the device unless you share it
A record that SeaLog Pro is active, when it was last confirmed and when the current period ends

4. SEALOG AND WEATHER CONDITIONS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE (NOAA)

SeaLog can record the weather at your position during a trip. To do this it asks the National Weather Service (NWS), part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), for conditions near you. The service used is api.weather.gov.

What is sent. An approximate position (latitude and longitude rounded to two decimal places, about one kilometre), the identifier of a nearby weather station, and the technical information every internet request carries, including your device's IP address and a header naming the app (SeaLog) and our website. Nothing else is sent: not your name, email address, vessel names, trip records, or any account or device identifier.

When. At the start of a trip, about once an hour while it runs, at the end of the trip, and when you tap Capture. If there is no connection at the time, SeaLog keeps the capture and asks again when a connection is available.

What comes back. Weather, wind and wave information, which SeaLog saves with the trip on your device. Coverage is U.S. waters; elsewhere there may be no data.

Who handles it. The request goes to the NWS, a U.S. government service. The NWS records the requests it receives (its own privacy policy lists the date and time, IP address and the address requested) and handles them under its own policy: https://www.weather.gov/privacy. Blue Tiefpunkt does not operate this service, does not receive copies of these requests, and cannot see which positions were sent.

Weather conditions are an optional record of how a trip went; they are not part of the sea-service report you submit.

5. RECONGPS: WHAT IT STORES AND WHERE

ReconGPS has no accounts and does not ask for your name, email address or any other contact details. It keeps the following on your device only:

Projects: their names, notes, and when they were started and ended
Collected points: name, notes, coordinates, heights, the date and time, and the statistics of the collection (how many position fixes were used and left out, the accuracy the receiver reported, and how far the fixes fell from the saved position)
For points collected through Trimble Mobile Manager, the details it supplied with the positions: the receiver's model and serial number, the Catalyst subscription level, the type of solution, satellite and dilution-of-precision figures, the height model and the reference frame
Stake targets you import from a CSV file: their names and coordinates
Your settings: units, the accuracy limit for the phone's own location, how points are collected, and whether staking sound is on
A record of when the current ReconGPS Pro period ends

Notes are free text. Whatever you type in a note is stored with the project or point and appears in any export you make.

6. RECONGPS AND THE MAP (MAPBOX)

The Map in ReconGPS is drawn by map software from Mapbox, Inc., using satellite imagery that Mapbox supplies over the internet.

What is sent. To draw the map, the Mapbox software asks Mapbox's servers for the imagery of the area on screen. Those requests show which area is being viewed (the map starts centred on where you are, so this indicates your approximate location) and carry the technical information every internet request carries, including your device's IP address and the name and version of the app and of the map software. By default the Mapbox software also sends Mapbox what it calls telemetry: location, usage, performance and diagnostic data that Mapbox describes as de-identified, carried with a randomly generated identifier rather than anything that names you. Mapbox states that this information is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you.

What is not sent. The points you collect, your stake targets, their names and notes, and your projects are drawn over the map by ReconGPS on your device. They are not sent to Mapbox.

When. Only once you have opened the Map. Until then ReconGPS sends nothing to Mapbox.

Your choices. You can turn Mapbox Telemetry off inside ReconGPS: on the Map, tap the ⓘ symbol beside the Mapbox name and choose Mapbox Telemetry. The requests needed to draw the map continue while the Map is open. Collecting, storing and exporting points does not need the Map.

Who handles it. Mapbox, under its own privacy policy: https://www.mapbox.com/legal/privacy. Blue Tiefpunkt does not receive these requests and cannot see which areas were viewed. Mapbox gives RMBAKER LLC usage totals for billing that do not identify you.

7. RECONGPS, TRIMBLE MOBILE MANAGER AND CATALYST

With ReconGPS Pro, ReconGPS can use positions from a Trimble Catalyst receiver. It gets them from Trimble Mobile Manager, a separate application published by Trimble Inc. that you install, sign in to and set up yourself.

How the two connect. When you choose Connect to Trimble Mobile Manager, ReconGPS opens Trimble Mobile Manager and passes it two things: an application identifier that Trimble issued for ReconGPS, which identifies the app and not you, and the address that returns you to ReconGPS. Trimble Mobile Manager answers with whether the connection was accepted and where on the device its position stream can be read. From then on ReconGPS reads positions from Trimble Mobile Manager directly on your device. That exchange stays inside the device; it does not pass over the internet. ReconGPS only listens to the stream and sends nothing into it.

What ReconGPS receives. Positions and heights, the accuracy the receiver reports, the type of solution and correction status, satellite and dilution-of-precision figures, the receiver's model and serial number, the Catalyst subscription level, the height model and the reference frame. ReconGPS shows these and, when you save a point, stores what belongs to that point (section 5).

What ReconGPS does not do. ReconGPS does not send your projects, points, targets or notes to Trimble Mobile Manager or to Trimble. It does not see your Trimble ID or password. It does not change any setting in Trimble Mobile Manager, including the datum, the reference frame or the correction source.

What Trimble does. Trimble Mobile Manager, your Trimble ID, your Catalyst subscription and Trimble's correction services are provided by Trimble under Trimble's own terms. Trimble, Catalyst, and Trimble Mobile Manager are trademarks or products of their respective owner. ReconGPS and RMBAKER LLC are not affiliated with or endorsed by Trimble unless expressly stated otherwise.

8. LOCATION AND GNSS DATA

Blue Tiefpunkt applications use location only where it is relevant to what the application does. You control location permission in your device's settings and can withdraw it at any time.

SeaLog records your position only while a trip is being recorded. So that a trip keeps recording when the screen is locked or another app is in front, SeaLog uses background location on iOS ("Always and When In Use") and a foreground service with a visible notification on Android. Position recording stops when you end the trip. SeaLog does not record your position at any other time.

ReconGPS uses your location only while the app is open, to show where you are, to collect points and to guide you to a target. It asks for location "While Using the App" and for Precise Location, because an approximate location is too coarse for field points. ReconGPS does not collect your location in the background. It also reads the phone's compass to turn the guidance display; the heading is used on the device and is not stored.

Location and GNSS data processed by our applications is not sold.

9. FILES AND DATA YOU PROVIDE

Applications may let you select, import, process, edit, create or export files and datasets, such as CSV files, target lists, geospatial files, trip records and backups. Blue Tiefpunkt processes them only as needed to perform the function you asked for. You are responsible for having the right to use any data or files you provide, including information about other people.

10. EXPORTS, BACKUPS AND SHARING YOU DIRECT

You can export, back up, save or share information using the services on your device: file services, cloud storage, email, messaging and similar. Once information leaves the application, the receiving service's own privacy practices apply. Blue Tiefpunkt and RMBAKER LLC do not control them.

A ReconGPS CSV export contains everything recorded with each point, including your notes and, for points collected through Trimble Mobile Manager, the receiver's model and serial number.

11. THIRD-PARTY PLATFORMS AND SUBSCRIPTIONS

Applications interact with services provided by operating-system vendors, app stores and similar platforms where needed.

SeaLog Pro and ReconGPS Pro are subscriptions sold and processed by the app store you bought them from (Apple, or for SeaLog also Google). Blue Tiefpunkt does not receive your name, Apple ID or Google account, or any payment details. The platform may give RMBAKER LLC summary sales and subscription reports that do not identify you. Each application keeps only a local record of whether its subscription is active and when the current period ends.

The applications open a few web addresses in your browser when you tap them: the subscription-management page of your app store, this Privacy Policy, Apple's standard terms of use, and the Blue Tiefpunkt website.

12. SHARING AND SALE OF INFORMATION

Blue Tiefpunkt and RMBAKER LLC do not sell personal information and do not share it for advertising.

Information leaves your device only when:

You direct or start the transfer (an export, backup or share);
A service is needed to do something you asked for (the weather lookup in section 4, the map in section 6); or
The operating system or app store processes it as part of its own service.

Blue Tiefpunkt holds no copy of your application records, so there is nothing of yours for us to disclose in response to a legal request.

13. ANALYTICS, ADVERTISING AND TRACKING

Blue Tiefpunkt applications contain no advertising and no tracking, and they do not follow you across other companies' apps or websites. Blue Tiefpunkt runs no analytics service and no crash-reporting service, and receives no usage data or device identifiers from the applications.

SeaLog sends no usage data to anyone.

In ReconGPS, the map software supplied by Mapbox sends Mapbox de-identified usage data unless you turn it off, as described in section 6. That information goes to Mapbox, not to Blue Tiefpunkt.

If any Blue Tiefpunkt application adds analytics, crash reporting, advertising or cloud services in future, this policy will be updated first and the change will be listed under the effective date.

14. RETENTION AND DELETION

You control how long your data is kept.

In SeaLog you can delete a trip or a vessel, or use "Clear all data" (Home, More), which removes trips, report settings and the on-device backups. Vessels are kept.
In ReconGPS you can delete any point or stake target, and any project you have ended, which removes its points with it.
Removing an application from your device removes the data it stored.
Exported files and backups, and copies in your device's own backup service, stay where they were saved until you delete them there.
You can turn off location permission in your device settings at any time.

15. DATA SECURITY

The applications keep your data in the application's private storage on your device and rely on your device's protections: its passcode or biometric lock, the operating system's application isolation and device encryption. No device, application or transfer method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for the security of your device, accounts, exported files and backups.

16. CHILDREN

Blue Tiefpunkt applications are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because the applications do not send your records to us.

17. YOUR RIGHTS

Because Blue Tiefpunkt does not collect or store your application records on its own servers, there is no account or data set of yours held by us to access, correct or delete. Your data is on your device and in files you exported. If you live somewhere whose law gives you rights over personal information, or you have a question about this policy, write to the address below and we will respond.

A request about information held by an organisation named in this policy (the National Weather Service, Mapbox, Trimble, Apple or Google) should go to that organisation, which holds it under its own policy.

18. THIRD-PARTY PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

References to or compatibility with third-party products, hardware, software, services, file formats or platforms do not mean those third parties operate Blue Tiefpunkt applications or control this policy. They are governed by their own policies and terms.

19. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We will update this policy when the applications or the law change. The effective date at the top shows when the current text took effect. When a change affects what information leaves your device, we will say so in the application's release notes.
